During the 161st meeting of the Regina Cordium praesidium which was held at The Montfort Spiritual Center of Bay Shore, NY; The Luminous Mysteries were prayed. The Spiritual reading was taken from the Handbook page 316-317, Chapter 40 titled: Go Preach the Gospel parts d and e. The Allocutio was Terri from Theology of the Apostolate of The Legion of Mary by Leon Joseph Cardinal Suenens concerning a second letter praising Cardinal Suenens’ book. In this letter, Cardinal J. E. van Roey, Archbishop of Malines, expresses his appreciation for all the work done in researching the roots of The Legion of Mary since it had become such a wellspring for saving souls in so many places of the world. He says that the rapid growth of the Legion shows it is a capital means of bringing grace into play and it feels like “the finger of God is here.” He further states that this book is not only addressed to the educated layman but to priests and religious as well. He invites all to meditate on the book which states the source of all true apostolic action is from The Holy Spirit and Our Lady. Christians are called to strengthen their faith and communicate it to others with courage and confidence. He says no one has the right to be unconcerned about the salvation of souls. He asks The Blessed Mother to bestow her blessing on the words of Cardinal Suenens’ book so as to open hearts and minds to their message. Regarding the first part of the Foreword found on page ix-x of the book, it says that The Legion of Mary began on September 7, 1921 in Dublin, Ireland with 15 people who had no idea what tasks lay ahead of them. They offered with confidence to Mary all their fears, poverty, and good will and asked for her inspiration and guidance. Since then, the Legion has spread to 5 continents with its rallying cry, “Who is she that comes forth fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array?” The Promise made by every Legionary is a contract linking us with our Mother Mary and consecrating to her service whatever we are or what we possess. We are totally at her disposal in every task we undertake for the salvation of souls. The words of the Promise should not merely touch the surface of the soul but be engraved in memory and on the heart. This book is designed to give the Legionary a fuller understanding of the pledge by which we are bound. We must continually test the Promise by living it each and every day. We should read it and re-read it as often as possible!! Our next meeting will be March 22, 2017 at 7PM.
